Making the Most of CaFE Resources |
If you are running CaFE resources in your parish here are some key points which will ensure that those attending will get the most from them.
Hospitality - CaFE style.
Never underestimate the importance of presentation; first
impressions do matter. We highly recommend setting out tables.
These create a relaxed environment and naturally form small groups for sharing. Tables laid with tablecloths, candles and flowers can make a real difference; people feel valued and special.
Try to provide the best refreshments you can, perhaps a glass of wine and nibbles or tea and coffee with biscuits (why not splash out and get chocolate ones!). This all adds to the atmosphere of the evening and will encourage people to come back and bring their friends.
Covering the Costs
We suggest that you do not charge for the course but don’t be shy to ask people, if they can, to pop a donation into a basket. This normally ensures that the cost of the evening is more than covered.
Forward Thinking
If people have enjoyed your CaFE course you will find that they want to come back again.
At the final session have some suggestions of what you are planning in the months ahead and ask guests to list their details (don’t forget their e-mail addresses) so that you can contact them.
Preparation and Prayer
It is, of course, important to spend time as a team co-ordinating and planning your course. Think about the practicalities, about setting up the room (don’t forget the temperature, a cold room can be very uninviting), have background music playing as guests arrive, provide refreshments and check the equipment.
The CaFE Leader’s Pack gives advice and checklists on the practical issues. It is also vital to spend time praying for the course. We recommend asking team members to commit to praying for each other daily and for those who will attend. Ask God to bless your efforts and pray that the course will help guests to come to know Him in a deeper way. You could encourage others to pray for the course by producing a parish CaFE prayer card.
Publicity - Timing is Everything
Time your publicity for optimum effect. You need to give people enough notice to put dates in their busy diaries and to get a sense of anticipation. We suggest that you begin publicising three weeks before the start of the course.
Each CaFE series has eye-catching flyers and posters available which you can customise with your own parish details. Some courses have short sample videos designed to attract people to come.
